Heritage Scrapbooking using Scrapbooking n Craft chipboards and Tim Holtz

Most of us remember our mothers on Mother’s Day, this year I dedicated the memory to my Great Grandmother. While I never met her, I did hear a lot about her and believe her to be an amazing and wonderful woman.

I have used a gorgeous Prima paper from the Printery range and incorporated a lot of found items from my stash. There are many new and wonderful trinkets and treasures on the market today as well, that would have been ideal. Look through your bits and pieces of stash and you’ll be amazed at what can be adapted to the current trends. Old will become new. I used some paper flowers (off our website) and stamped over them for an added effect as I thought they were too plain.

The film strip is a Tim Holtz die (awaiting stock at present) which I have cut from a piece of heavy card/light chipboard. This works well as it becomes an ideal medium for altering and decorating. To give it a grundgy historical look, I roughly inked it using a couple of inks that coordinated with the flowers. I then simply inked around the edges with a black for a little more definition. Chalk inks work extremely well and dry quickly.

The chipboard pieces I selected are from Scrapbooking n Craft (SNC) and are in the process of being uploaded to the website. The keys are from a set of keys and locks in various sizes. We have some exclusive designs coming in soon and are very excited about that.  Once again, I simply inked the chipboard, then distressed it by lightly sanding it. This gave it a worn, used look. Appropriate for the vintage of the picture.

The cotton doily was spritzed with a light tea stain dye and a few pearls added to the centres of the flowers.

Hoping everyone had a wonderful Mother’s Day and has some fabulous photos to scrap.

Limited Edition chipboard – Brother

My grandmother was a ‘photographer’, well let’s say she liked to take photos of whatever was going on at the time. Just day to day things as well as more specific occasions. Looking back at the photos I was given after her death makes me realize just how important those regular, everyday photos are.

This photo is one of my father and his brothers – one of whom has now passed on but left a lasting impression and some great memories. I have used the Kaisercraft paper range Hunt and Gather, just fabulous for male pages or projects. Being an older photo I have distressed and torn the papers and combined them with some ‘found’ items – gathered along my scrapping journey. The fence chipboard is a discontinued one I had lying in my ‘leftovers’ box but there are many other suitable fences available on the website, including the last of these ones – Scrapware.

The clock is a Tim Holtz die cut, cut from chipboard, inked and misted with a Perfect Pearls spray.

I used some ‘found’ items to add a little more vintage feel and sanded them back, rubbing a metallic rub over them to age them a little more.

Tip – Gel glue holds these items on very well!!!

Happy Scrapping :)

New Paper Butterflies – you’ll find them amongst the flowers :)

These gorgeous Mulberry paper butterflies come in two sizes in either white or colored. The white ones are fantastic to use with your color sprays as seen in the previous post – Granddaughter.

Grand-daughter layout

Becoming a grandparent is one of the most wonderful things that can happen. This page is of my first grandchild, just 3 weeks old.

I used some more of the Prima Alla Prima range of papers, distressing them (and the photo) and sewing around them and the page. A strip of gorgeous 3D ribbon (Bella) was used along the base of the photo.

The title chipboard – Grand-daughter from Words or Whatever was prepared first to let dry. I used Tim Holtz Distress Stain Picket to give the chipboard a white base (this was to color match as closely to the butterflies), then it was spritzed lightly with Adirondack Stream and a light spritz over that with Perfect Pearls Sunflower Gold. Using a 3D dimensional medium (Crystal Lacquer) I covered the chipboard and set aside to dry.

The butterflies were prepared in a similar fashion. As they were white I simply misted them lightly with the same color sprays – Stream and Sunflower, allowing them to dry. A heat gun can be effectively used to dry them, which I did.

A few adhesive pearls were applied to the centres of the butterflies for some definition.

Super Truckers

Great excitement -  school holidays and a round trip to Sydney in the truck!

I used an distress like embossing powder for the title – Father and Son by WOW (Words or Whatever) and simple coloring technique on the Semi Trailer – another Words or Whatever chipboard -  with markers and gel pens. While these were drying I cut out a cog shape piece of paper  and a couple of tag pieces. I cut the cog in half and reversed the paper for a contrast against the chipboards that I was going to mount over it. I used this to frame the photo, adding some Paper Xtra foam alphabet letters for the title and some Cosmo Cricket tiny letters to complete it. The tag will have some journalling on it, describing the 2 day adventure that was had. Once again, I have used the fabulous Echo Park papers – gotta love these!

A close up of the embossing used on the title chipboard. Changing the base color of the ink that you use will vary the end result of the embossing powder. I used a lighter blue to give a little more ‘speckle’ effect.

The Semi Trailer was colored using a chalk ink all over and gel pens used to highlight the chrome areas on a truck, while the tyres were colored with a sharpie marker.
